Peanut-Butter Chocalate Chip* Bars

2/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup peanut-butter
1/4 cup shortening or butter
   1 egg
   1 tablespoon milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 cup quick-cooking rolled oats

     Combine 1/3 cup of the flour, the brown sugar, peanut butter,shortening (or butter), the egg, milk, vanilla, and soda. Beat with an electric mixer on medium to high speed until throroughly combined. Beat in remaining flour. Stir in oats. Spread batter into an ungreased 8 by 8 by 2 inch baking pan.
      Bake in 375 oven for 15 to 18 minutes or until a toothpick or fork inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool in the pan on a wire rack. Frost with Peanut-Butter Frosting (below).

Peanut-Butter Frosting

1/6 cup peanut-butter
2 1/4 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cup milk
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

     In a bowl beat peanut-butter, powdered sugar, milk and vanilla. Beat in extra milk until of spreading consistency. Tint with food coloring if desired.
